Volute and East Midlands Cancer Alliance are finalists for Excellence in Collaboration award
In a ground-breaking partnership, Volute teamed up with the East Midlands Cancer Alliance (EMCA) to create the Aspirant Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Development Programme, to offer cancer nurses unprecedented access to learn new skills and gain valuable expertise.
We are pleased to announce that this programme has been recognised in the Nottinghamshire Business Awards 2024 Excellence in Collaboration category.
Cancer is becoming more prevalent within society, nationally and regionally. At the same time, there is an increasing shortfall in qualified cancer nurses able to cope with the level of patient need. We need hundreds more specialist nurses and allied health professionals and that figure is only going to keep growing.
The Volute collaboration with NHS partner organisations across the East Midlands is already beginning to help transform the pathway of professionals into careers in cancer care. Learning condition-specific skills and subject-specific knowledge is vital to nurses and AHPs being able to provide specialist support in this area: the learning management system (LMS) platform created by Volute, EMCA and colleagues across the NHS, has simplified the process for skills development/training for all professionals. The initial target was for 25 nurses to complete the training. That target has been smashed.
Whereas previously, information and resources were spread around various systems and platforms, the Volute LMS brings all this training information into one safe, secure and easy-to-use learning space. Prior to this exciting development, professionals often had to travel to a meeting room venue to receive training, this new collaborative LMS platform provides everything online, for free, forever.
The development of the LMS has been a perfect example of the best of the private sector teaming up with the best of the public sector, for the benefit of all; for nursing and AHP professionals, and importantly, those who have been diagnosed or receiving cancer care in the East Midlands.
Evaluation from participants has seen high praise for the LMS, and we are proud to say that the programme has received accreditation from the Continued Professional Development Certification Service. It has exceeded all targets and is helping provide a more positive future for cancer nursing care in the East Midlands.
