The NIHR HealthTech Research Centre for Rehabilitation (HRC) aims to develop technology to help patients rehabilitate after life changing injury, trauma and illness. Their website brings together researchers, companies, charities, patients and public into a community hub.

The centre brings together expertise from NUH, the University of Nottingham, Loughborough University, Nottingham Trent University, and the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre. It works with patients, healthcare professionals, academics, and innovators to develop new rehabilitation technologies, refine ideas into research questions, prototypes, or practical solutions, and accelerate the application of innovations.

Challenge

The website needed to clearly communicate the HRC’s goals, opportunities for collaborations and showcase their research in a clear and engaging way.

The website also needed to be rebranded to reflect the recently launched NIHR rebrand, incorporating updated visual guidelines, typography, colour palettes and digital assets to ensure consistency across the NIHR.

Volute are a lovely team that take every challenge thrown at them and make it look easy to solve.

Development

The website was designed to be user-friendly, professional, and adaptable to the HRC’s evolving programme.

  • Clear submission form: A plain-language form on the homepage allows anyone, including patients, members of the public, researchers, or businesses, to submit ideas. Submissions are stored securely and managed by the HRC team without technical support.
  • Brand compliance: Colours, fonts, logos, and tone follow NIHR guidelines.
  • Responsive and accessible: The site works smoothly on desktops, tablets, and mobile devices and includes accessibility features for all users.
  • Flexible content management: Built on a content management system, the website allows staff to add news, updates, and projects as the HRC programme grows.
  • Event Management System: the complete event solution: advertising, booking and delegate management.
  • Phased development: The site is being developed in phases to accommodate future enhancements and content.

The Results

The new HRC website provides a friendly, professional platform where innovators can submit ideas, receive feedback, and see progress.

It is easy to navigate, fully aligned with NIHR branding, and ready to grow with the HRC programme.
