When MindTech was first established in 2013, they needed our support with the development of their first website. Now the organisation has grown and evolved, we have refreshed their website again in 2025, along with providing them with an upgraded website content management system.

Challenge

MindTech’s website needs to comply with the brand guidelines of The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and recognise the input of key partners:

  • Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
  • The University of Nottingham
  • The Institute of Mental Health.

They were looking for a fresh, modern look that reflected their growth and maturity as an established organisation.

They also wanted to restructure content to showcase ongoing research, along with the key individuals involved.

Jen Martin

We wanted to work with somebody who understands the space we're working in and could take us through the process. Volute have been really approachable with a great balance of listening to us and suggesting new ideas whilst allowing us to ask stupid questions! What was particularly nice during the design process was that we knew we could send Volute the branding requirements for the funders and we knew they would address those.

Development

The redesign took a people-focused approach, incorporating extensive imagery on the homepage to enhance the site’s visual appeal, make them feel more approachable, and highlight important focus areas.

Another enhancement to the website is the introduction of a dedicated area for Innovators. This reflects the organisation’s commitment to industry engagement, working closely with them to support the real-world adoption of products.

The research themes were organised by age groups and methodologies, then further divided into specific research areas. Each area offered detailed insights into ongoing research, highlighting major projects and their respective Team Leaders.

The Results

The site has a fresh new look, content is displayed more effectively, key concepts are highlighted and the people involved are easily identified.

MindTech now have a website which has:

  • Modernised their visual identity: The refreshed design aligns with NIHR branding requirements while establishing MindTech’s own distinct visual presence. The use of extensive imagery and clean layouts creates an engaging and approachable experience for users.
  • Clearer Research Showcase: By clearly categorising research content, the new site structure enables clearer storytelling and better visibility of ongoing projects. Each research area is supported with detailed descriptions and prominent profiles of team leaders and collaborators.
  • Enhanced engagement with innovators: The newly introduced Innovators section provides a dedicated hub for industry engagement. It supports MindTech’s mission to accelerate the real-world adoption of effective mental health technologies, making it easier for external partners to connect and collaborate.
