The British Association of Paediatric Urologists (BAPU) is an organisation for surgeons involved in the care of children with urological conditions; they discuss standards and coordinate guidance.

Consultant Paediatric Urologist Andy Robb, BAPU's Honorary Secretary explains the history of the website. "Our old site was very old and we were trying to run a modern organisation with a website that had outgrown its usefulness. We were struggling to get information out and keep it secure."

"We spent a lot of time trying to find solutions for the website and we spoke to our colleagues at EMEESY Nephrology Network and they put us in touch with Volute, who built and manage their website."

Development

BAPU's new website needed to be user-friendly and to able to convey a lot of information. However, Andy notes that BAPU had other considerations, too: "It also needed to be a business website to allow us to manage the membership of the association, to run ticketing for events that we were putting on and help us to manage those events."

"The process of developing the website was very easy." continued, Andy. "Everyone who was involved in the planning of the website was busy with patient work all the time. The initial planning at the beginning was very important, allowing us to plan for both now and the future; getting consensus was challenging. Having said that, once we had made those decisions, the technical delivery of the website easily fell into place."

The Results

"It’s been really good with lots of positive feedback from members who find it really easy to use." says Andy.

"What is the best thing? The fact that we can combine all functions that we need into one place - it’s one website that allows us to give information out, to manage members and to run events."
