West Bridgford, a town in South Nottinghamshire, has a thriving town centre packed with restaurants, bars and independent shops. But the West Bridgford Growth Board, which is responsible for promoting the town, decided it also needed an online presence to help people find out about shops, events & places to eat.

We were asked to work with them to develop a website supporting their West Bridgford Way brand, to do just that.

Challenge

The brief was to create a site that showcased the diverse range of independent shops in the town, to support the board’s West Bridgford Way marketing campaign. We agreed we would create an online directory of retailers which could be navigated through different categories, as well as an interactive map showing where they were located.

"Volute have a very personal approach and as a result are really good at interpreting the brief and understood our needs and requirements before we knew what we wanted. What's really important for us is that it's easy to use and upload information. We also needed a site that was attractive and aesthetically pleasing and we're so happy with the final result. The project was delivered on time and in budget and it is user friendly both from an end user and client perspective."

Development

We used an advanced Google Map, which we customised to match the visual appearance of the website, creating individual markers for shops participating in the West Bridgford Way scheme, so users can easily see where a business is.

To help people search for a particular kind of business, we created a tagging system which puts each participant into one or more categories, such as clothing, food and drink, nightlife, or gifts. Once we had completed the design of the website, we then handed it over to the client to add text and photographs.

The Results

The response to the website has been extremely positive. Rushcliffe Borough Council held a well-attended launch event for the site and local business-owners have been keen to get involved, with new businesses and information added regularly.

The website has become a go-to infomation centre for people wanting to find out about West Bridgford's shopping and local events.
